Our first abroad initiative.

Back in May of 2011 my now husband and I traveled to Vietnam to visit my Mother and Father in Law (who continue to live and work there). During our visit to the country we stayed in Hanoi for a period of time, and this is when I was first introduced to Deaf Craft 5 Colors.

Deaf Craft 5 Colors is a social enterprise that started back in1995 that provides supports to those who are hearing impaired. Some of the individuals are hearing impaired as well as have varying abilities.

The organization provides vocational training, fair wage employment, literacy training and a caring social environment. These individuals are often left with no hope for a future in Vietnam. They often feel as though they are a burden to their family, left living on the streets, and with no chance of employment or a better life. However, they have found hope in creating their own organization that is run and organized by the hearing impaired. They do have volunteers that come in and assist in establishing new markets, new product designs, encouraging the workers as well as selling at various bazaars. The money that they earn goes towards the rent of their facility (where most of these individuals live) food, and supplies to continue their business.

When I met the group on the streets of Vietnam they had a booth set up selling their wares. After purchasing a bunch of cards I knew I wanted to try and help these entrepreneurs build their business. Once back in Canada I sold a box of their cards and sent the money back to the group. One of the volunteers stopped here in Calgary as she was home for a short period of time visiting family. During our visit I was able to purchase another box of cards from her.

Fast Forward a bit. After getting married and having babies, I wasn't able to put the effort into selling these gorgeous cards here in Canada. Fast Forward again to today, I still have this box of these cards.

These cards will be available on the website for sale with a 100% of the proceeds going back to Deaf Craft 5 Colors. In addition to these sales we will be donating a portion of every sale back to this group.(Cards coming soon to our new site)

We believe that we can make a difference in the lives around us and we are so excited to be helping out this wonderful group. It is our goal to help spread goodness to those who need it.

We are so thrilled that you have chosen to purchase our goods and support a wonderful group in need. Stay tuned as we will be posting an update on this group and how the proceeds raised will impact and have impacted this group.

Best,

Linda
