Trailhead: Emerald Lake Lodge Parking Lot
Distance Round Trip: 5 km
Duration Round Trip: 2 hours
Think of Lake Louise, or Moraine Lake with much less crowds with an unbelievable loop all around the lake. Yes it is a popular spot, but most people don't go too far from the parking lot. This green glacial lake is one of our absolute favourites in the rockies with gorgeous mountain views all around.
What makes this an amazing family hike is the gorgeous flat loop around the lake. You can even do one side of the loop if not the whole. You can turn back at any point too, depending on how the kids are doing, and you can stop almost anywhere for a picnic. Since the lake is right there and you are not climbing towards it, it makes it very flexible with no disappointment of missing out. A great spot to take your out of town visitors with or without kids.
We would like to go back to do some fishing here. Canoeing would also be wonderful in the warmer months, which you can rent right there. There is a lodge at the beginning/end of the loop, as well as an outdoor cafe. We fancied a lovely lunch at the lodge.
We can go on and on gushing about this lake, and the views. But all we wanna say is you must go here!
A little fun fact is that Linda (One of the owners) lived at Emerald Lake Lodge for a year. It was one of the best experiences and holds a very special place with her. She always has to stop when passing by.
